Challenge

UON Energy had ambitious growth aspirations but no structured marketing function to support them. Marketing activity was fragmented and decentralised — there was no strategy, no systems, no governance, and no dedicated team in place. Collateral was inconsistent, the tech stack was undefined, and there was no clear connection between marketing activity and the business's strategic growth plan. The challenge was to build the entire marketing function from the ground up — and do it while operating inside the business as an embedded outsourced Marketing Lead.

Process

The engagement began with a comprehensive audit and analysis of the business — its market position, competitive landscape, internal capabilities, and growth objectives. From there, we developed a detailed set of strategic recommendations that formed the foundation for everything that followed.

Strategic marketing plan

We developed UON Energy's annual strategic marketing plan, directly aligned to the business's growth plan and commercial aspirations. The plan was presented to and endorsed by the executive team for deployment — giving marketing a clear mandate and measurable objectives for the first time.

Marketing function build

We project managed the transformation of UON's marketing function from scratch — designing a resourcing model, establishing systems and processes, developing foundational brand collateral, and implementing the marketing technology stack. What had been a fragmented, ad hoc effort became a structured, governed function.

Website deployment

We project managed and deployed the company website — giving UON a professional digital presence aligned to the new brand positioning and marketing strategy.

Internal communications

We developed the internal communications strategy for the business and supported its activation — ensuring employees were informed, engaged, and aligned to the company's direction during a period of significant growth and change.

Vision, values, and charter activation
