Koomba Bidi
A big journey starts with a name Koomba Bidi — Noongar for "Big Path" or "Big Journey" — is a proudly Aboriginal owned and managed construction equipment hire company with significant experience in the mining, resources, and infrastructure sectors across remote and metropolitan Western Australia.Empresario was engaged to develop a complete brand identity for the business from the ground up — creating a visual language that honoured the company's Aboriginal heritage while positioning it credibly and confidently in the competitive resources sector.

Challenge
Koomba Bidi needed more than just a logo — they needed a brand they could be proud of.
The goal was to create an identity that felt authentic to their culture, resonated with clients in the resources sector, and established a professional presence across all touchpoints from day one.
At the same time, the brand had to strike a delicate balance:
earn credibility with Tier 1 contractors and mining companies — while staying true to its Aboriginal heritage, values, and story.


Process
The brand development started with meaning — rooted in the name Koomba Bidi (“Big Path, Big Journey”).
Concept Development
The idea of a “path” became the central design narrative, explored through three distinct creative directions:
- Expressive Direction
Circular forms flowing through the wordmark symbolised movement and journey — creating a warm, human, and distinctive identity. - Cultural Direction
Traditional shapes informed a stylised “K”, integrating a path along its vertical axis with a curved form inspired by a boomerang — balancing heritage with commercial strength. - Modern Minimal Direction
A refined system of linear dot patterns represented a path in a contemporary way — subtly referencing Aboriginal dot work traditions.
Visual System
Across all directions, an earthy palette of terracottas, warm oranges, and deep neutrals grounded the brand in Country and place.
Brand Rollout
The final identity was developed into a complete system, including:
- Logo suite across formats and applications
- Client-facing collateral (business cards, presentations, email signatures, workwear)
- Clear brand guidelines to ensure consistency and scalability
- Designed and built the Koomba Bidi website to support the business with new client acquisition and growth campaigns


Result
The final brand gave Koomba Bidi a strong, confident foundation from day one.
It delivered a distinctive and culturally grounded identity that feels authentic — while standing confidently alongside major players in the resources sector.
More than just a visual system, the brand became a tool for credibility — helping build trust, open doors, and position Koomba Bidi as a serious and capable partner.
For a new Aboriginal business entering a demanding industry, that foundation made all the difference.
